SECTION 1: SECTION 1: URBAN FANTASY BOOKS SIMILAR TO ZORAIDA CÓRDOVA'S LABYRINTH LOST After reading Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova, the author's writing style reminded me of Daniel José Older. Not only did I find style similarities with the show of cultural heritage and pride, but also with the realistic character development and family interactions. I also saw similarities in story scale and epic flow with the works of Rick Riordan's writing. I think both fans of Older and Riordan will utterly enjoy Córdova's novels. SECTION 2: MOST POWERFUL THEMES REPRESENTED IN LABYRINTH LOST In Labyrinth Lost, by Zoraida Córdova, one of the most powerful themes is owning your truth. Alex possesses immense magical ability, but she fears it and blames magic for everything. She won't accept that magic and her family are connected, which leads to her accidentally banishing her loved ones to a different dimension. Her journey to get them back is one of self-discovery and acceptance of who she is, what she can do, and who she'll fight for. You can also support your local library and rent this and other Urban Fantasy stories through the Libby app SECTION 3: WHAT I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT LABYRINTH LOST Picking what I didn't like about Labyrinth Lost, by Zoraida Córdova, is difficult because of how much I enjoyed the book. For the sake of nitpicking – the ages/behaviorisms of the main characters fluctuated from pre-teen to young adult, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. You can argue hormones, stressful situations, whatever, but I found the lack of consistency strange. SECTION 4: WHO WILL LOVE AND HATE LABYRINTH LOST If you enjoy young adult, self-discovery style stories, or urban fantasy with gorgeous cultural heritage and magic, you will love Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova. If stories that explore sexual orientation and non-Christian mythos make you uncomfortable, this is not the book for you. Section 5: L. Rigdon’s star rating of Labyrinth Lost Labyrinth Lost, by Zoraida Córdova, gets a five-star rating. As book one in a trilogy, it portrays in-depth characters in a stunning supernatural world that hooks you from the start. Personally, I enjoyed the bisexual orientation awakening scenes and how they added layers to the main character. LGBTQ+ representation is important, especially with main characters, so I applaud Córdova on including character orientation discovery in an already epic journey of self-exploration.
