Section 1: Urban Fantasy Books Similar to Dreadful Company
Section 2: Most Powerful Themes Represented in Dreadful Company
As a feminist/humanist, I love how this series promotes underrepresented groups in positions of power along the lines of gender, orientation, age, and ethnicity. In this book especially, I also adore how the author shows the struggle with toxic masculinity pushing characters to play the hero while simultaneously showing how those characters internally panic under the stress.
Section 3: What I Did Not Like about Dreadful Company
I consumed this entire series via audiobook, and though the voice actor was the same for all three books, they changed how they pronounced a key character’s name from book 1 to book 2, and it grated on me for the longest time! Other than that, I love this series so much!
Section 4: Who Will Love and Hate Dreadful Company
Section 5: L. Rigdon’s Star Rating of Dreadful Company
You always worry about book 2 in a series being less than the first book, but Shaw masterfully creates a new and exciting adventure with characters you already love, and she adds in some new people for delightful tension. Shaw also pushes intimacy and romance through connection, not through overtly sexualized scenes, which I found clever and artfully done.
